The Frampton Trail, in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty,
is a 1 kilometer long circular walk which gives you the chance to discover
Frampton's past and to explore how it has changed through the
years.
The area is within
the Frampton Conservation Area which has been developed by the Dorset
Countryside Ranger Service to improve access for wheelchair users and the
visually impaired.
To begin your
walk you will need to start at Tibbs Hollow walkers car park which can be found
in Tibbs Lane, Southover.
This small car park and
picnic area was developed in 1992 by Frampton Parish Council and the Dorset
Countryside to mark the fortieth anniversary of the coronation of Her Majesty
Queen Elizabeth II.
To continue your
walk, follow the footpath out of Tibbs Hollow towards Metlands Wood. This is an
excellent woodland walk, especially in Spring time when you will see large
drifts of snowdrops.
As you progress
along the trail you will see various places of interest including a collection
of grand houses which are the remains of Frampton Court, the Wren bridge; so
called as it was designed by Sir Christopher Wren and St. Mary's Church which
has some fine examples of stained glass windows.
You will also
find along the way the Gatehouse Tea Rooms, a welcome break for those tired
legs and rumbling tummies!
